Penalties 

If you fail to file Form 7004 by the original due date of your business tax return, you lose the automatic 6-month extension. Filing a late return can trigger a failure-to-file penalty (5% of the unpaid taxes per month, up to 25%). 

Even if you file for an extension, you’re still expected to pay your estimated taxes. If you do not pay, the IRS will charge 0.5% of the unpaid tax for every month, up to a maximum of 25%.
